Class designed by Judah Page

Yoga 101: The Basics, 60 min.

Awaken your strength, energy, and flexibility! In this class, you will open and stretch your muscles with slow movement, careful alignment, and conscious breath-work. Yoga poses and asanas, as well as proper alignment, will be broken down for your greater understanding. You will also learn to focus on linking conscious breath with a mindful slow flow. It won’t be easy or lazy, just slow, thoughtful, and grounding. This class will also touch on the fundamentals of yoga such as Yin, a non-active deep stretch, ligament strengthening practice. This class is excellent for new yogis. All levels of practice are welcome. Bring a yoga mat and your bare feet.

Wednesdays 5:45p-6:45p: 11/1, 11/8, 11/18, 11/29

Yin 101, 60 mins.

Yin Yoga, a passive form of yoga that is generally practiced on the floor. It is unique in that you are asked to relax in postures, soften the muscle and move closer to the bone. While yang-like yoga practices are more superficial, Yin offers a much deeper access to the body. You will gain access to the deeper tissues such as the connective tissue and fascia and many of the postures focus on areas that encompass a joint (hips, sacrum, spine). As one ages flexibility in the joints decreases and Yin yoga is a wonderful way to maintain that flexibility. Yin is appropriate for all levels of fitness. Bring a yoga mat and your bare feet.

SPECIAL EDITION: Monday 11/13, 5:45p-6:45p

Yoga Nidra,  60 min.

Yoga Nidra is a practice of guided meditation that creates deep physical relaxation, assists in the releasing of deep seated habits, and can expand an existing spiritual practice. Yoga Nidra promotes deep rest and relaxation that isn’t found in your average meditation practice. The stages of body scan and breath awareness alone can be practiced to calm the nervous system, leading to less stress and better health. Yoga Nidra is excellent for those seeking to develop a meditation practice or looking for healing of physical and emotional injuries. Yoga Nidra, however, is a practice that everyone, from children to seniors, can do. All that your body needs to do is lie down on the floor.  And even if you can't lie down on the floor, you can still do this practice seated.  We suggest that you dress in layers if you tend to get chilly, as your body temperature drops naturally in this meditative state. Feel free to bring a cozy blanket or your favorite pillow for additional comfort, as well as a yoga mat.
