Winter Solstice Meditation

  • Gallery Yoga 6425 East Thomas Road Scottsdale, AZ, 85251 United States (map)

Join Cannakula Founder, Jennifer Miles, for a seasonal celebration of the change from Autumn to Winter on Saturday December 21st, 10:00AM-11:30AM.

The Winter Solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky. In many cultures which used cyclic calendars based on the winter solstice, the "year as reborn" was celebrated with reference to new beginnings.

We honor new beginnings with personal intention setting, meditation and mantra chanting.

This restorative practice incorporates gong vibration and I AM Yoga Nidra™ (guided sleep based meditation), to assist in the clearing of mental chatter, stress, worry, anxiety, chronic pain, habitual behavior patterns and more. Resting the nervous system in this way, is also extremely beneficial for the immune system - strengthening the body's natural ability to resist illness and dis-ease.

Why Chant 108 OMs:

“Om” is said to be the primordial sound born with the universe. As we exhale the A-U-M, its vibration links us to the original source of creation. The chanting of Om drives away all worldly thoughts and removes distraction and infuses new vigor in the body. The sound can reverberate from the pelvic floor upward through the crown of the head, filling the body with pulsating energy that simultaneously empowers and radiates tranquility.

As for the number 108, the individual numbers 1, 0, and 8 represent one thing, nothing, and everything (infinity). 108 represents the ultimate reality of the universe as being simultaneously one, emptiness, and infinite. 108 has long been considered a sacred number in yoga.

This class is appropriate for all body types and levels of experience. Please bring a yoga mat, as well as a cozy blanket and something to cover your eyes, such as an eye pillow, bandana or hand towel.
